But in the depths my heart I truly know that you, Yahweh, have become my Shield; You take me and surround me with Yourself. Your glory covers me continually, You lift high my head.Psalm 3:3 TPT
King David wrote Psalm 3 while fleeing from Absalom—his son but now his enemy. Can you imagine the stress, fear, and rejection he must have felt, running from his own son? He begins this psalm, “Lord, I have so many enemies, so many who are against me. Listen how they whisper their slander against me, saying, Look! He’s hopeless! Even God can’t save him from this!”
The stress level in America is off the charts. We’re experiencing inflation at record highs, food shortages, and insanity in our government and our schools. Without faith in Jesus, it would look hopeless.
As David wrote, “LORD, you are a shield around me.” The Augustine, Hebrew translation is “You, O Lord, are my taker.” Telling us that God shields us by taking us into Himself. We are safe when we are in Him. Proverbs 18:10 says, The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
It reminds me of a story I loved in Sunday School; while a forest fire raged, a mother hen called her chicks to herself, and those who came and cuddled under her wings were saved from the fire. She ‘was the taker’ —she perished, but her chicks lived.
Jesus is your Taker. He not only took your sin at the cross but also gave you His righteousness. He takes your fear and gives you faith. He takes your worry and gives you peace. He takes your sickness and gives you wholeness and healing. He wants to take your stress, your fears, and worries, too—if you’ll let Him.
Here’s a vital truth for every child of God to remember in these difficult days: He has taken our citizenship out of the kingdom of darkness and moved it into His kingdom! Colossians 1:13 says, For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son.
Do not let stress and fear overcome you, dear child of God. It’s faith that moves the hand of God on your behalf. As you trust Him, He surrounds you with His goodness and keeps His promises. A fire may burn around you, but it won’t come near you. (Psalm 91:7) Declare that you will not just survive these days, but you will thrive in God’s kingdom!
A Prayer for Today
Dear Heavenly Father, like King David, I declare from the depths of my heart that You are my Shield. Thank you that You take in my family and me and surround us with Yourself. I am nestling down in Your loving arms today! I will not fear but trust in your unfailing promises and thrive!
